Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology is one of the universities with undergraduate program under the Hebei Provincial Government. Established in 1941, Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology started the undergraduates program in 1977. In 1999, HNUST was authorized by China Ministry of Education as one of the first key bases for training teachers of vocational education. In 2003, it was renamed as Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology and was authorized to grant the Master Degrees. The University recruits students from 25 provinces and municipalities directly under the Central Government of China and now there are 24,000 full-time undergraduates and 13,000 adult learners.

Now HNUST consists of Qinhuanggao Campus, Changli Campus, E &A College and Campus at the Developing Zone, and is ?well?equipped with modern and top teaching facilities---with 1900 acres500, 000m2 teaching building, teaching and research instruments and equipments worth of RMB1,000,000,000 and 1,200,000 books in the library. Now there are 1,200 full-time teachers, among whom 450 are professors, 500 with doctor degrees and master degrees. Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology Transactions, for Natural Science and for Social Science are issued both at home and abroad.

There are 21 educational departments. 44 undergraduate specialties and 59 technological studies are run at the school, covering disciplines of Agriculture, Engineering, Arts, Science, Law, Economy, Management and Education and four disciplines are authorized to grant master degrees. It is equipped with 1Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for High Education in Hebei Province, 1 provincial lab, 19 institutes, 45 labs and 1 Analytic and Testing Center and 121 teaching practice bases. In addition, China Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labor and Social Security has subsequently set up Rural Vocational Training Center and National Vocational Capability Appraisal Center.

The University lays emphasis on promoting research and reformation, which has made tremendous progress. Since the 11th five-year National Developing Program , the University has undertaken 779 projects funded by national and provincial funds, 499 for scientific study and 280 for social study, and won 112 awards for scientific research , a national award for teaching , 11 awards for teaching from Hebei Province and 55 for scientific study. 4,200 papers have been published, 98 of which indexed in SSCI and A&HCI; and 230 books are published.

Since the 11th five-year National Developing Program, the University has successfully breed 29 new species with our own property rights, and won 11 provincial awards for scientific progress. One of them is YanLong, a new species of Chinese chestnut and a new tomato have been funded by national funding for production transformation
