Cultivation Plan for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language

一、Cultivation Goal:

The objective of this plan is to prepare students with solid basic theories and skills of general linguistics and Chinese character, to develop students with strong ability of using Chinese and English, proficient knowledge of Chinese and foreign literary and culture, and ability to innovate and practice. The students are trained to become professional “application-type” talents, capable of teaching Chinese as a foreign language at home and abroad, teaching in Confucius institute, working as foreign senior officers or tour guiders, teaching Chinese in the middle school, as well as doing specialized research.

三、Course Description:

1. Modern Chinese

   This course mainly teaches the knowledge about pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and rhetoric of Modern Chinese, which make students to understand general situation of Modern Chinese, grasp phonetic system of Mandarin Chinese, have conversational ability of Mandarin Chinese, capable of writing standard Chinese characters proficiently and correcting grammatical error. This course also aims to improve students’ capacity in using rhetoric knowledge and appreciating language. This course examination takes the form of test paper.

2. Ancient Chinese

This course includes two parts that are literary selections and reasonable arguments. By teaching systematically grammar, glossary, phonology of Ancient Chinese, using reference book, ancient book annotation, classical Chinese literature translation and knowledge of ancient culture, it aims to raise students’ capacity of reading ancient literature and teaching classical Chinese in middle school. 3. An Introduction to Linguistics

This course mainly teaches fundamental nature of language, the structure rule and evolution of pronunciation, glossary, semantics and grammar, the relationship between language and character. 7.The History of Contemporary Chinese Literature

This course mainly teaches writers and works which have a greater impact on society and literary since People’s Republic of China was founded, especially from the new era.
